Prioritise yourself this Autumn

Autumn is my favourite time of year. The nights drawing in and the crisp weather. However I can also find it can be one if the busiest times of year. This year the next couple of months look really busy. With entrance exams for my middle child. The start of the football season for my youngest and eldest and of course it is my Meme’s birthday in September. As you can imagine I am already starting to feel a little overwhelmed and anxiety is already starting to creep in. Speaking to my friends it seems to be a common feeling right now.

The new school year is the perfect time to set yourself some goals, September always gives ‘New Year’ vibes and it is the perfect time to make some changes for the new season. Here are a few ways you can prioritise yourself this Autumn which will hopefully help you ease into the next few months.

Have a Skincare Routine.

Yes I am still going on about the importance of a skincare routine. Make sure you make the time every morning and evening to cleanse, tone and moisturise. Invest in some beautiful skin care that will make you feel wonderful. It is such a great way to start your day and end it. I can’t recommend a good skincare routine enough.

Declutter Your Bedroom.

Despite the fact that it is still August I am already getting my bedroom Autumn ready. As the back to school routine gets started and my evenings are full of kids clubs etc I need a place of calm. Somewhere I can go and switch off. I am in the process of decluttering my bedroom. I have purchased some new bedding and candles. I am looking forward to early nights with a good book in a relaxing space.

Steam Shower

There is nothing more glorious than starting and ending your day with a steam shower. This definitely needs to be a part of your daily self care routine this Autumn. Steam showers also have such great health benefits. Including the alleviation of aching joints, the acceleration of metabolism and the enhancement of the immune system.

Wake Up Earlier

Every few months I promise myself that I will wake up earlier and make some time for myself before my children wake and the hustle bustle starts. I am determined to do this, even if it is just 30 minutes to have a cup of tea alone or do my skincare in quiet. This is my goal for Autumn.

Exercise

Like most working parents I struggle to exercise as much as I should. The Summer holidays have been lovely but chaotic. I need to get into the routine of finding a way to exercise even when the children are home. Some weights in the garden, an online pilates class. A good walk during my lunch hour. It is important we keep our bodies moving.

I hope these ideas of how to prioritise yourself this Autumn have helped. It is a wonderful time of year to write down some goals, embrace the beautiful crisp weather and get moving.
