What to do in Merseyside and Cheshire

There are so many top places to visit in Merseyside and Cheshire. If you read my blog or follow me on Instagram you will know that as a family we absolutely love adventures! I am lucky enough to live close to so many lovely places. Places where my girls can explore and run free. Places where memories can be made.

Not Sur what to do in Merseyside or Cheshire?

Here are some of our top places to visit.

Ness Gardens.

This little gem has to be top of my list. Ness Gardens is my happy place and we have very many happy moments here. No matter how hectic life is or how stressed out I feel, as soon as I enter the gardens I feel a sense of calm. The gardens are just beautiful and my girls run around crazy in there excited to be free. There is a park and tractors to play in as well as balancing beams that they love. There is woodland to go and explore and huts to go around and visit. Special events are organised in the school holidays for the children to enjoy. If you are local or visiting the area this is one place that you must visit!

Bodelwyddan Castle

Another favourite of ours. Bodelwyddan Castle is situated in North Wales and has lots to offer for families and little ones, starting with the huge woodland park suiting all ages. There is also a small maze which my girls love, a huge chess board and draughts board to play with, mini golf and croquet. On a rainy day you can go inside and explore the castle, which has been made so child friendly including old toys to play with and a wooden tea set for some imaginary play. Bodelwyddan Castle can definitely keep children of all ages entertained all day.

Parkgate

We visit the coastal resort Parkgate at least once a week and love it here. There is a small wall that goes along the 1.5 mile stretch of Parkgate and my girls love to walk along it – sometimes it’s the simple things isn’t it. There are lots of cafes and places to eat and Parkgate is home to the most amazing fish and chip shop! We spend many a lazy Sunday morning here watching the world go by.

New Brighton

I have been visiting New Brighton since I was little. It is full of fond memories of my childhood and I hope to make more with my little family. It has the most amazing promenade perfect for taking the little ones on bikes and scooters, there is a lovely beach and also a pirates ship which my girls love climbing on. There are lots of places to eat – you will often find us in Pizza Express! Lots and lots more including a fun fair, crazy golf and a cinema. New Brighton is a perfect place to visit whatever the weather.

The Museum of Liverpool

Museums are our go to especially during the winter months when it can be too cold to spend much time outside. Liverpool has a few brilliant museums but the Museum of Liverpool is our favourite. It is such an interactive museum detailing the history of Liverpool including its fashion, sport and architecture. There is a model of an old steam train that my girls love to explore, a train track that and a karaoke room with some Liverpool classics playing. However, the best bit is the Little Liverpool room which is specifically designed for under 5’s – I guarantee your little ones will love it!!

Erddig National Trust

We have visited Erddig a few times now and have always had such a lovely time. The last time we went there was an Alice in Wonderland exhibition, which was amazing. There is lots of beautiful open space to run free and an art shed where you can have a colour (or, in our case, shelter from the rain) and, my girls favourite, a wooden park with lots of balancing beams and some den making. It is one of our favourite National Trust venues to visit.

The Ice Cream Farm

I have heard lots of people talk about the Ice Cream Farm but I only got around to visiting it last summer. When we arrived Harri’s response was ‘Wow’ and I don’t blame her. It was like a scene from Willy Wonker’s chocolate factory. There is a big park full of colour and excitement, the most delicious ice cream (honestly you will be spoilt for choice!) and a farm. There are also lots of extras that you can pay for including mini golf, an indoor sand and waterplay area and soft play. It is amazing and Harri often asks when can we go back!

Church Farm

My girls aren’t really animal lovers however Church Farm is so much more than just animals. There is a park, a huge sand pit, tractors and much more. It is a place you can go as soon as it opens and spend the whole day there. The views are stunning and your little ones can feed the animals which is lovely to watch. Definitely one to visit if you are in the area. They also have a pumpkin picking patch in October and lots going on at Christmas

Brimstage Maize Maze

Brimstage Maze is so much fun. We actually had Meme’s 6th birthday party here and it was amazing. It is only open from July – September so there is only a limited time to visit but it is definitely worth a trip. There is a huge Maize maze which my girls love (who doesn’t love a maze?), a play barn, a park, a sandpit, jumping pillows and the list goes on. There is also a courtyard of little boutique shops which I love to potter around and make a few purchases. We make sure we go every year and it never disappoints!

The Albert Dock

The Liverpool Waterfront has always been one of my favourite parts of Liverpool, it just has a real holiday feel to it, especially on a Summers day. Pottering around the gifts shops, eating in many of its restaurants, seeing a concert at The Liverpol Echo Arena or taking a ride on the big wheel. The Albert Dock has such a good atmosphere so go visit and don’t forget to keep an eye out for the Superlambananas.

  1. LOVE the ice cream farm!! We discovered it a couple of years ago and it’s amazing isn’t it? The ice cream is well worth the drive, but there is so much for the kids to do too. I haven’t been to a lot of places on this list, I’m definitely going to broaden my horizons!! Xx

  2. You have an ICE CREAM FARM??? Oh my goodness I would love this, let alone my girls! What lovely places you have near you. Alice loves a maze too, I get panicky that I won’t find my way out. x

  3. There are so many places I keep meaning to go here and we still haven’t made it too, Ness Garden and Errdig being top of that list. I have family on the Wirral so everytime we go over there, we go to visit them and doesn’t leave much time for other exploring. Fab post! xx

  4. Oh wow, this is a brilliant list! I have heard of the Ice Cream Farm before and it looks so magical. It’s actually a really long way for us but I intend to take the girls for a few days up that way over the next couple of years because it’s the sort of place I feel they should go to while they are children. Thanks so much for linking up to #familytraveltips.
