We have just spent the weekend at Bluestone – we actually booked it way back last year when we realised Meme had a inset day at the end of the half term, which also conveniently fell on Harri’s birthday weekend.
As a family who love the great outdoors we were eager to try Bluestone – the idea of bikes, activities and a big swimming pool was more than enough to get us excited to visit. We set off early on the Friday with an extremely full car and started our trek down to South Wales. It took us quite a while to get there (partly due to lots of roadworks on the way!) but it was definitely worth the journey.
We had booked a lodge to stay in which was nice and bright and my girls were delighted with their big girl beds for the weekend. After arrival it was a quick bite to eat and straight to the pool. I was a bit concerned with regards to the pool as you don’t have to be a resident to use it and I was worried it would be really busy – not the case. We spent most of our time in the main pool getting hit by the waves (much to our girls delight) and dancing to the music but there was also a smaller pool with beach balls in for the little ones to play in.
We had pre-booked a few activities on the Saturday. First up was the 4×4 landrover driving experience, which was really good and Meme loved it – she was also mighty proud of the drivers licence that she received at the end. Next up was the ‘Secret Village’ which was brilliant – a little bit long for Harri but Meme loved it, it was journey through the woods to find the secret village led by a Hobbit (who was amazing). At the end, each child was given a little pouch of fairy dust to keep. Sunday saw us making puppets, which Harri and Meme fully enjoyed.
We realised didn’t really need to book any activities because there is a lot to keep the little ones and us big ones busy. We all really enjoyed our trip – Meme’s favourite part was the Tree house park, Harri enjoyed the indoor activity centre, which included a lego wall and soft play. My favourite part was the Ty Coffi shop with it’s yummy smoothies (typical) whilst my Hubbie loved going on bike rides around the resort.
So will we go again…. my hubbie is itching to go back and has pretty much been on their website ever since, Meme is desperate to go and try the climbing wall (amongst other activities) and Harri keeps talking about the swimming pool. However, for me, the only thing that puts me off returning is the long journey – it took us around 4.5 hours to get there – probably longer after hitting some traffic. As much as I enjoyed it, for a weekend it is too long of a journey for me. It is possible to stay for longer (they offer midweek stays) though now with us being restricted to the school holidays it is rather expensive.
So I guess we will see… although I am currently out numbered!
Here are some of our pictures:
Have you been to Bluestone? What did you think?
This looks like a lovely place! Sadly im on the other side of the country! I bet the 4×4 driving was brilliant! xx #bloggerclubuk
Looks fab, will have to check that out ourselves!! #BloggerClubUK
Bluestone looks fab – I have looked at their site a couple of times and would love to visit. The activities sound great too, would love to see the hobbit!
What a wonderful place to visit. It’s a shame it’s so far away though. #PointShoot
We haven’t been to Bluestone but it looks great! It would be quite the drive for us from Yorkshire I think but as you said, it looks well worth the trip!
I’m glad you enjoyed your weekend away. I absolutely LOVE Bluestone. I’ve been three times already and am heading there this Friday with another trip booked for November (I think we are addicted). For us it’s easier I guess as it’s less than 1.5 hours from our home in Wales, and even though we haven’t tried many activities apart from the pool as BattleKid is only 2, I can see it being our weekend escape plan for many years to come.
Bluestone looks like an amazing resort for families. Fab photos too #pointshoot
Awww Bluestone looks so pretty! Your daughters look so adorable in the last photo =) #pointshoot
I have looked at Bluestone a few times, but never got round to actually booking. Looks a great place to go. Love your pictures #Whatevertheweather
It sounds like you all had a lovely time. I’ve never been but it sounds worth checking out. I love the sound of the secret village walk

Aw that one of them riding their bikes is so cute! I am glad you had a lovely time. We have never been but I have friends who have been who have said it’s fantastic. xx
Bluestone does sounds like it has a lot there for families and certainly worth doing for longer if you have to travel far. Great that they encourage so many activities outdoors. The fairy village looks a bit like ours and I do like the off road cars, it was a toss up here between that and the train rides which we went for. Glad you had a wonderful weekend even if it was a long way to go.
Thank you for sharing at #CountryKids
We love Bluestone! Such an amazing place. Sounds like quite a journey for you though, we are lucky as it’s not too bad from Cardiff. Hoping to go at Christmastime this year for the Kingdom of the Elves, which everyone says is really magical. #countrykids
