The Countdown – The Ordinary Moments

The Countdown – The Ordinary Moments

It’s been a funny little week, after a really nice bank holiday Meme was back in school, which seemed a little strange but it was only for four days – not too bad. We were all on countdown.

Wednesday was nice, due to a mix up with work I had holidays to be taken by the end of March so I booked Wednesday off and I convinced my hubbie to spend the day with me. Meme was in school and Harri was in nursery, so it was just the two of us which is very rare. We are in the process of turning our junk room into a study.  It has been a really slow process but necessary.  My husband only works the odd day from home but, when he does, he has had to work on the kitchen table, which isn’t at all practical with me and Harri being at home most of the time. I wanted to make a nice space for him and also a place where people can stay over if necessary.

We already had a sofa bed and a desk so we really needed an office chair and some storage.  We therefore decided to be constructive with our day off and go to Ikea. So off we went in the morning thinking we had all the time in the world (hand up if like me you thought once the kids went to school you would have loads of time to get stuff done? but seriously, how fast is the school day?). I love my girls but it was so nice just being the two of us, it’s not often we get time alone together, we could chatter on the journey, we could listen to our own music, I didn’t need to take a big bag of food and entertainment and I also didn’t have to make endless trips to the toilet – it was bliss. We had grand plans to do lots but we actually spend the whole day there before rushing home for the school run but it was nice to have a little change in our routine. We ended the day taking the girls to the chippy for tea which they loved.

We also had parents evening on Thursday. The last one we had was in October and, although she in reception and there is probably not a great deal to be said, I was really looking forward to it! Meme has gone from spending most of her time with me to spending it with her teacher so I was eager to hear how she was getting on. She got a glowing report which was no surprise, she is a good girl and it was nice to hear praise from her teacher. She does make me so proud.

So now we are done for a couple of weeks, no more early rises (I wish), no more school runs and no more rushing around. Just plenty of sister time, meeting friends and no doubt visits to parks – I cant wait!

  1. You obviously needed a bit of time just you and him, and what better way to spend it than at ikea! That must of been exciting going to Meme’s first parent teacher evening, I know I’ll be excited for Daisy’s first one! xx

  2. We are in the middle of our easter holidays here, it must be different everywhere this year as I have heard of a few people who went back to school in between the bank holiday, but I just absolutely love not having to do the school run. I just love it so much! Hope you have a great one together. xx

  3. I was quite surprised when I read that your school went back after the Easter break but if most people are back at school when you’re off that must be amazing! I have the very odd day either by myself or when the hubster is off and J at nursery and it really does go far too quickly doesn’t it? x

  4. We were back for 4 days too which felt pretty mad! Nothing like a chippy tea to feel treated haha its so funny how such small things make their lives!!!
Enjoy the break – looking forward to seeing your adventures x

  5. Aw I hope you’re having some lovely family time over the holidays. We are always in such desperate need of a break by the end of time. We’ve spent a lot of time just chilling at home – probably way too much time on screens!
