My husband is an adventurer – I guess we all are, we love packing up and seeing new places, making new memories. We love exploring new places, always looking for a holiday in the UK to take. Although I think maybe being the main childcare in our house I am a little more cautious and practical.
A last minute holiday to Devon.
A couple of weeks ago my husband booked a spontaneous trip to Devon for a long weekend. Whist I knew a change of scenery would do us all the world of good my practical side kicked in – its almost a five hour drive for just a couple of days. We have a 12 week old baby and would need to take the baby’s steriliser, the crib, we would need to have multiple stops to feed him. Travelling with a baby is hard work. I was thinking of all these reasons not to go.
However we went of course and we had the best time. Yes all the reasons above were valid but didn’t stop us from enjoying ourselves. We went exploring the fishing village of Brixham, we had a Easter egg hunt in Green Way National Trust whilst also getting soaked in the rain. We stayed in in the holiday resort of Finlake which was really lovely. The girls went horse rising, bike riding, swimming in an outdoor pool and we paid a visit to Torquay which was beautiful.
A weekend of memories were made. Laughing when Daddy had to carry Mummy over a huge puddle. Watching our brave girls horse riding for the first time. Hiding under shelter catching the rain, splashing in the pool in the sunshine. It really was the best weekend. We are now heading home tired but smiling.
I love my husband for reminding me whats important. Next time he books us a weekend away (which I hope is soon) instead of worrying about the obstacles I am going to be thinking of how much fun we can squeeze into it.
I am so glad you went and had a great time. It sounds like you packed in loads. I’m like you and tend to look at the obstacles too so Thank you for the reminder to let go and enjoy it! Thank you for linking up to #PointShoot ? i Love the beach photo!!! ?
I love to see your photos on instagram, really lovely they are. Looks like you had a great time! I love the pony rides! #Pointshoot
So important to have some spontaneous family time. We don’t do enough of it at the moment but that’s how our circumstances dictate – seasons. Make the most of it while they’re small ?
I love that your husband booked this for you all. We definitely need to take a leaf out of his book, as we are not spontaneous at all. On the rare occasion that we have been, it’s been so much fun. Sounds like you’ve had a lovely time and made lots of memories x #Bloggerclubuk
We wish our daddy was more spontaneous! Infact he’s usually the one saying that we can’t do things. Sounds like you had a great mini-break in Devon x #CountryKids
It’s fabulous you all went and had such a fabulous time exploring Devon, you definitely had the weather to explore everywhere! The girls look like they are loving all the new experiences there, horse riding is always a great activity for little ones whilst they’re on holiday. I’m sure you created some memories that will last a lifetime this week.
Thanks for linking up with me on #CountryKids.

We live in Devon and you have been to places that I haven’t – well done for making the effort and I hope that you will be tempted to come again. #CountryKids
What a fabulous weekend away. Sounds like you had a busy time! I’m a little like you…happy and content with the known, cautious about the unknown. #countrykids
That’s such a beautiful part of the world, somewhere I’d love to show my son one day too #CountryKids
Looks like you all had a great spontaneous trip. I love adventures too. #countrykids
Sometimes we just have to feel the fear and do it anyway. #CountryKids
OH that’s lovely!! I am completely with you on the practicality but it’s so nice to have a break away! Sounds like some brilliant memories xx #CountryKids
Spontaneous trips away are the best! Sounds like you managed to fit plenty into your weekend away which is very impressive with a 12 week old baby! Love the photos of your girls riding the horses 🙂 #countrykids
