3rd Trimester – Pregnancy denial?

3rd Trimester – Pregnancy denial?

I’m excited I am fast approaching the 3rd trimester with my 3rd child and I am definitely in pregnancy denial. I can’t wait for baby number 3 to arrive. I’m not saying that I am not enjoying my girls and my life because I am, but I always knew deep down that I wanted three children. I feel that once this baby is here in our arms, in our home, in our family that we can truly start our life as a family of five. No more pondering if we will have more children. No more trying to get pregnant again. No more heartbreak when things go wrong and no more pregnancy sickness.

As a busy mum of two I am trying to buy a few baby bits here and there, nothing big just babygrows, vests, bibs etc. – I have been storing them in a drawer in our study. Last week I went to have a little look to see what I needed more of when I noticed that all the items that I had bought were for baby girls. We didn’t find out what we were having so the gender will be a complete surprise. What am I thinking?

Am I in pregnancy denial that I might have a boy?

Truthfully? I can’t imagine being a Mum to a little boy, it’s not that I don’t want a boy, I just can’t even imagine what it’s like bringing up a son. When I think of our family all I can see is girls. I have two sisters, my husband has a sister, there is my niece and, of course, my girls. Apart from the arrival of my beautiful nephew a couple of years ago it has always been all about the girls.

Am I in pregnancy denial? Just because I have two girls doesn’t mean my third will be one. Just because I can’t imagine having a boy doesn’t mean I wont have one. When I actually allow myself to believe it could be a boy I feel a little bit of excitement. It would be so different, so new. Although, another beautiful girl to complete our family would mean 3 sisters, just like my Mum had.

Like the majority of parents I have no preference as long as it’s healthy. That is all I care for. However, I am intrigued….who is going to complete our family? How is our story going on end? All I can say is, roll on December!

Have you ever had pregnancy denial?

  1. I can’t believe how fast your pregnancy has gone!! It feels like you only just announced it! I felt a lot like that though with Eva, after two boys I had never really imagined myself with a girl and was convinced they’d got it wrong! Then after two girls, to find out Harry was a boy I was in denial all over again! It’s lovely that you have a surprise coming, I was never patient enough, and whatever you have I just know they will be gorgeous like your girls. So excited for you, I hope you’re finding time to rest too! #mg

  2. I couldn’t resist finding out what I was having when I was pregnant with Aspen, I think after 2 miscarriages at that point I just had to know. Both hubby and I really wanted it to be a girl, I know we shouldn’t have but we did. I had 3 nephews and all my cousins first borns at that point were boys so most people were shocked that I and a girl first. My mum had 2 sons followed by 2 daughters and my hubby is the youngest of two boys. With April we also found out, I was happy either way, hubby wanted another girl. But with our third we decided not to find out as it just didn’t matter, I was so thrilled to be pregnant and I actually loved not knowing. I carried exactly the same, had the same morning sickness and craved the same foods. I would go shopping and wander over to the boy baby section just to imagine what it would be like. But I honestly was happy, well more than happy to have 3 gorgeous girls. Everyone assumed hubby wanted a boy, but he had always said we’d have 3 girls even when we only had one.
Funny though when Adam was born and they carried him away to be checked I looked at him from a distance and thought there is my son. At that point I actually didn’t know as I had told the doctor not to tell me. When they passed him to me I saw his boy bits and I wasn’t even surprised, it was like I looked at I’m and had known that I had been waiting for him all along, my entire life. I was instantly in love, almost drunk with love. I would hold him and nearly fall asleep as he relaxed me somehow. I honestly thought I would not bond as much with a boy as I would with my girls (I know it may sound weird but I truly felt that way). But he stole my heart!
I fee so blessed to have 3 children, and no matter what I would have been thrilled. Honestly it didn’t matter as long as we all survived and are all here safe and loved.
My cousin has 3 daughters and their bond is gorgeous, I think that your baby is destined to be totally adored and to be so happy with 2 big sisters to look up to! #mg

  3. I’m due in January and haven’t been able to find out the sex yet but I’m convinced it’s going to be a boy! My first baby was a boy and my pregnancy has been identical, and in my head I just can’t imagine having a girl! #maternitymondays

  4. Awww hugs! Your instinct is probably right. When I was pregnant I did not doubt for a moment it would be a boy, I am not sure why. It was a boy, though. Take care, love! #mg Your little girls are adorable. God bless.

  5. Your pregnancy is whizzing by! When I was pregnant with my first, I didn’t mind what I had and was really pleased to be having a girl. When I got pregnant the second time I had really mixed feelings. I desperately wanted Alice to have a sister, as I never had one and always wanted one. But knowing that it was also my last pregnancy I thought then I wouldn’t experience being a mum to a boy. It was at this moment, that I am pleased that you can’t choose the sex, that it is in the hands of that little sperm that makes it 🙂 Because I honestly couldn’t have made that decision! As you know I have 2 girls, which I adore. But there is part of me that wonders what it would be like to be a mum to a boy. x

  6. Aww it is an emotional time but whatever you get you will love. Boys were the unknown for me but now I have one of each, if we have another I think id like another boy. They are so different to girls. I get loads more cuddles off my little boy 🙂 the boy bits did get a while to get used to though and there were incidents in my face and his at the beginning ha ha. I’m so excited for you eeeeeekkkkk #maternitymondays

  7. Ah, I had my little boy in December. I kept changing my mind with what I thought I was having throughout my pregnancy. For the first half I thought a boy but then changed to a girl! I’m so pleased I have a little boy. Wishing you all the luck in the world for the rest of your pregnancy x #dreamteam

  8. I can’t believe how fast time is flying by. You look amazing by the way. It’s so exciting not knowing! Ekkk! I have always wanted 2, but after a terrible time first time round, we decided to stick to 1. Everyone thought we would have a boy, but I can admit now that I really really wanted a little girl. The gender scan was really nerve wracking. I think no matter which, you will always be thrilled 🙂 Thanks so much for linking up to the #DreamTeam xx

  9. Wow, you’re nearly in the third trimester already! I always knew I’d have a boy so it wasn’t really a surprise when our son was born. This time around I didn’t care either way and when we found out it was another boy I was so excited. Like you say, as long as they’re healthy the gender shouldn’t matter. I’m going to guess you’re having another girl..that way you won’t have to take all the baby clothes back to the shop 🙂 xx #mg

  10. Hi Natalie, exciting times for you and your family. You’ll have that little bundle in your arms before you know it. Baby will be celebrating his or her first Christmas very early on (I did too, but sadly, have no memory of it).

As for my baby preference. I honestly didn’t have one. I just wanted a healthy baby (who wouldn’t). I’ve got one of each and wouldn’t swap them for the world… Maybe a box of chocolates though!

Hope your third trimester flies by and all goes well when the time comes.

  11. Ah so exciting, I knew we were having a boy all along with Jack and Joe I had to find out as Jack was desperate to have a brother and was quite vocal that he didnt want a sister, we decided to find out so we could prepare him either way x

  12. Well you look amazing so far along! I have 4:boy, girl, boy, girl and having both genders def gives u a diff dynamic. Girls are high maintenance… Haha in our house the boys are less clingy and more independent… And they don’t chatter my ears off allllllll day!
Whichever way, goodluck . Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well!

  13. Ah what an absolutely beautiful shot!! I know what you mean, I always had a strong feeling that I would have girls and couldn’t imagine a little boy in our family – although I would have been just as happy to have had a son. My advice to you is to rest up as much as you can and look after yourself. Thank you so much for linking up to #MyCapturedMoment xx

  14. How exciting, I can’t wait to hear what you have. We found out both times, and although a tiny part of me would have liked the surprise, I loved knowing what we were having during the pregnancy. We always felt we would have boys, not sure why, so when we found out G was a boy it just seemed right! xx
