A lesson learned

It’s finally half term and a much needed rest is definitely needed.

I absolutely love having my girls off with me and I have these idealistic notions that we will laze about, play games, visit parks  and potter around.

Some days we do and days like these make my heart sing but, like most families, some days we don’t and by the time we get to bed time everyone is grumpy, the house is in disarray and tears have most definitely fell at some point by all of us!

Monday was one of those days – the girls wanted a pj day which is something we never have – it sounded bliss, however, in reality they get bored so fast, they go from one activity to another making so much mess along the way. We played fairies, princesses, we had a carpet picnic, we read, we painted, we baked and the list goes on. Alfie struggles to settle at home so he was tired and upset and needed to be held most of the day. I was exhausted and by the end of the day was getting frustrated and started shouting. I was so relieved when they went to bed, which I know sounds terrible. Not a great way to start the holidays!

I was determined Tuesday was going to be a better day and it was. My girls need to get outside – to run around and to explore. We all need to get some fresh air and then feel the benefit of coming home – we all feel so much better for it. So the next time the girls ask for a pj day my answer will be a firm no! A lesson has been learned.

  1. I feel the same here, I love the idea of a pj day at home but realistically it works better for everyone if we a least go out for a little while. They appreciate going out and then appreciate being in too! x #sharingtheBlogLove

  2. Aww it’s hard sometimes, especially with a baby and older children. If we don’t leave the house the kids go crazy, they are unbearably hard work which is why we end up going out most days! it’s hard coming up with ideas when the weather is bad though! #fabfridaypost

  3. For us, going out and doing fun things is kind of like Russian Roulette. Sometimes the 4 year old acts better/nicer because of it…And sometimes she acts like an even bigger tool afterwards. :/ #fabfridaypost

  4. When we spend a lazy day at home everyone ends up on different devices! My children are probably a little older than yours but I try to get them outside as much as possible or off individual devices and doing something as a group! Visiting from #sharingthebloglove

  5. It’s so hard to keep them all entertained! Mine go a bit crazy without fresh air, but I find it extra hard now as my eldest is almost 11, she will protest if she doesn’t want to go somewhere with us. If it’s an indoor day (regardless of activities) they get bored easily. Sarah #FabFridayPost

  6. I recommend going out every day, the sooner the better. It cheers up everyone, mums included! The energy spent staying inside in pj’s far exceeds the energy released outside of tehhome in play. Hard to do all the time, but almost always, well worth the efforts! #FabFridayPost

  7. I get bored pretty quickly on the odd pj day we might have, and my four bounce off the walls if they don’t get outside, if only for a few minutes. The weather this mid-term hasn’t been great though, and we had to stay cooped up once or twice because of storms – it was so hard to keep them off the screens, and nice to each other…

  8. Alice is just the same if she stays home. Holly is a bit better, but then she plays so much better on her own and can sit for ages with her dolls house. We like to go out in the mornings and have a chilled out afternoon at home. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

  9. I can relate to this. When they stay indoors – they just turn the world upside-down in seconds! lol! But outside they are free to roam around, scream as loud as they want. It is Freedom for them. If it is not raining then – then I try to get my kids outside for some fresh air. Thank you so much for linking up with us on #FabFridayPost My apology it took so long for me to comment. Thank you for your patience. xx
