Simple cleaning tips for first time parents

Although there doesn’t seem to be much positivity happening in the world right now. For many people they are entering the start of an exciting new chapter. Many expectant parents will soon be welcoming their new born babies into the world and although I’m sure we’d all like it to be under better circumstances, this won’t take the shine away from this precious experience.

Becoming a parent for the first time is extremely daunting. It feels like you have a never ending list of things to remember. Whether it’s making sure you have purchased all the essentials or rushing to finish the baby’s nursery on time, it’s an experience that no one can prepare you for.

Although both personal hygiene and cleanliness within your home is always important. It has never been more so than during the current health pandemic we’re facing. Like many people, I’m constantly stocking up on cleaning and hygiene products to minimise the amount of germs and bacteria within my home. We’re constantly being told to wash our hands regularly and other ways to keep the virus at bay, and it causes a sense of anxiety, so it’s hard to imagine how this is affecting first time parents.

Once your newborn has entered the world, you’ll want to make everyday life as smooth as possible. I want to share a few simple cleaning tips that will help towards creating a clean and stress-free environment, for both you and your baby.

Tip 1 – Keep clothes looking fresh

During the early stages of your baby’s life, you’ll start to understand that baby grows and other materials can become dirty and stained fairly quickly. Whether it’s introducing them to solid foods for the first time. Or allowing messy play, sometimes a simple wash doesn’t keep the clothes looking fresh.

One of the best ways to remove any stains is to cut a lemon in half, squeeze the juice onto the stained area and then sprinkle with some salt. Once you have done this, use a toothbrush to gently scrub the area. Then rinse with cold water and put it in the washing machine as normal. You should find the stain disappears after this process.

Tip 2 – Eliminate odours around changing stations

One of the least enjoyable parts of parenthood is being greeted with rather unpleasant nappies. Unfortunately there is no way of avoiding this. We just have to get the job done as quickly as possible. Sometimes the lingering smell doesn’t always disappear once the nappy has been changed.

To eliminate odours around changing areas, there is a really simple and effective tip which requires minimal effort. Take a glass jar and fill it halfway with baking soda. If the jar is on show then feel free to decorate it to create a more attractive appearance and then simply allow your creation to keep the surrounding air fresh.

Tip 3 – Keep towels baby soft

The skin of your newborn is very delicate. It’s important to make sure it’s not just their clothes you’re giving the correct attention when washing. Towels are just as important so it’s essential to make sure they’re nice and soft ready for when bath time is complete.

To ensure a soft and smooth feel, add half a cup of baking soda to your washing load, along with the normal detergent you normally use. Simply complete the wash at 60°C and you’ll find the towels are the perfect texture for your little ones delicate skin.

Hopefully the tips I’ve shared will come in handy for any first time parents. Or even if you already have children. Simple tips like these will help towards making life that little bit easier. Allowing you to enjoy the precious time with your new arrival.

It would be great to know if you have any tips of your own. If so, I’d love to hear them!
