Let’s Get Upcycling!

Let’s Get Upcycling!

Do you upcycle? I love the idea of upcycling. Finding some old household item and fixing it up into something new. There are so many advantages to upcycling. Firstly it saves money. Instead of buying a new chair upholstering an old chair can be much more cost effective. Rather that throwing away old furniture to be replaced with new pieces it is definitely worth thinking about upcycling. It can also be a great way to make money. There are so many people now finding old pieces of furniture and making them look completely new and unique, then selling them at a premium. It is a great way to buy one off individual pieces that no one else will have.

It can also completely change and freshen up the look of a room.

Painting an old side cabinet and adding some different handles can give a room more of a vintage look.

Most importantly Upcycling has such huge environmental benefits.

By Upcycling old items it reduces the number of materials and products ending up in the landfill. It also minimizes the use of natural resources and raw materials, reducing our carbon footprint.

This is why it is so important and why we need to be encouraging our children to get creative, use their brilliant imaginations and get into the habit of tweaking, changing, painting old and tired items and producing something new and amazing.

With this in mind the amazing people at Brandon Hire Station have launched an amazing competition for primary aged children, to help encourage the next generation to get upcycling. The winner will receive 4 tickets to LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort.

To enter all you have to do is submit a drawing showcasing your upcycling idea and email it to [email protected]. Be as imaginative and creative as you can!
