Finding your tribe

Finding your tribe

Finding your tribe is tough whatever stage you are in life. Remember the school cliques in the play ground? The cool ones, the sporty ones, the pretty ones, the clever ones… the list goes on and I feel it doesn’t matter what age you are or what stage in life you are at – it may in be in work or even in your child’s school playground, you are always looking for your gang, your people.

I have been reading blogs for years now, long before I started my own. In fact it’s since I have started Memeandharri that I have become aware of how many blogs are actually out there and I am beginning to notice that many fall into a catagory. Now I wont mention any blog names but, in my opinion, blogs I have discovered fit into the below categories:

The Cool

The blogs that looks effortlessy cool and the blogger looks trendy in clothes that I could never get away with, their photography looks cutting edge. They write about gigs, books, fashion. I tend to read them in hope that a bit of their coolness will rub off on me (it doesn’t)

The Ambitious

These are the blogs who know what they are doing, they are knowledgable with all the correct plugins, successful social media accounts, they run a couple of linkys every month and they are at the top of their game. I envy these bloggers, they are so organised and so determined I find it really inspiring. They no doubt work early in the morning and late at night and are extremely dedicated. These don’t necessary have to be people who have been blogging for years, there are actually some new bloggers that I would put into this category.

The Creative

These are the bloggers who look like their homes (and lifes) have come right out of catalogue spread. Their Instagram feeds are just perfect, full of pictures of cups of tea, flowers and their beautiful homes. Everything looks so lovely and I swoon every time I read their posts.

The Friendly

Most blogs tend to be welcoming and friendly but these ones are special. Their writing has the ability to make you feel like you know them, you actually feel like they are your best friends. Sometimes you even want to call them for a gab but obviously can’t. Their words often are dripping in love and emotion that they can often bring a tear to your eye.

The Funny

We all know these bloggers – these are the ones that make you howl laughing. Their honest tales of parenting and life is hilarious and always manages to brighten my day.

The Newbies

The new kids in the class. They are a bit shy trying to find out where they belong and who they connect with. This is me, I have no idea what tribe I belong to and I just shuffle around the other tribes trying to find out where I fit in.

I think most people no matter how old they are or how confident they are want to find their people, the ones they have stuff in common with, the ones who they feel most comfortable with – a little part of us all want to belong somewhere.

Everyone has a preference, I read a collection of blogs from each tribe and I have a favourite in every one. Also a lot of blogs fit into more than one category.

Do you know what tribe you belong to?

  1. I aspire to be ambitious, definitely not too cool, I talk about creativity without being picture perfect! Is there a mediocre or average category??? Enjoyed connecting with your blog via #BloggerClubUK

  2. Oh what a fab post! I have no idea what tribe I fit in – though I know which ones I’d like to be in – ha ha! I recognise all the same traits as you though and will never read a blogger in the same way now – thinking all the time ‘hmm you’re one of those and you’re definitely one of those!’ Brilliant! #BloggerClubUK

  3. Ohhh I know what tribes I would like to be in but I think the tribe I fit into is newbie. Maybe one day I will be a cool blogger! I can dream 😉 #bloggerclubuk

  4. I love this post, such a great look at the different groups in blogging, do you know I feel a little bit out of a tribe right now and it is kind of uncomfortable. My own kids are not really kids anymore but my blog supports my website which is for parents with young children. I chat to those from my old tribe with similarly older kids and younger mums in new tribal groups. It is an odd position to find myself in and one probably particular to me, but not being part of ‘a tribe’ is a little uncomfortable if I’m honest. Please adopt me in your group!

    1. I would definitely put you in the friendly tribe or maybe we even need ‘the helpful tribe’ as you would fit perfect in there also. It is hard finding where you belong…we never really change from that 4 year old child starting school all wanting to fit in somewhere. Thanks for your comment lovely x

  5. Maybe The Plodders?! We blog along, we’ve been in the game too long to be new, but we’re never going to cool, ambitious or super creative. We are friendly but not funny … Lovely post 🙂

    1. haha this would probably be my tribe – I am such a plodder it annoys me sometimes! I can dream of belonging to the ambitious tribe but I just wouldn’t fit it in. Thanks for your comment lovely xx

  6. Haha, I can relate to this! I don’t think I really fit in anywhere apart from the newbie category! Definitely not funny, don’t think my actual face appears on my blog enough to ever be ‘cool’, too shy to be ‘friendly’, and while I’d love to aspire to the ‘creative’ category, I just don’t think perfect is achievable for me! Newbie it is 🙂 #bloggerclubuk

  7. Love this! I’ve been blogging over 2 years now and I still don’t think I have a tribe, I just kind of blog along haha – I’m most definitely not popular or cool, I still feel like a newbie haha xx

  8. I really love this post! I can identify blogs I read in all these categories! I think I am still yet to find my tribe though too!

  9. Great post! Like everyone else I’m not sure what category I fit it, although I know I’m definitely not cool or funny! I’m definitely a newbie at the moment but I think I’d like to be in the friendly category. And my very favourite bloggers are rocking most of those categories all at the same time actually xx

  10. I really relate to this but I don’t know what tribe I am in. I too love the Instagram feeds you talk of though! Thanks for linking up to #sharewithme – do please link again xx

  11. I hadn’t thought of it in that way before. I guess I would be friendly (?) and possibly still a newbie. Can you be more than one… great post. #TheList

  12. Ooh I love this! I have been blogging so long now I’d like to hope I belong in the friendly and approachable category, I do get asked for help quite a bit which I love so fingers crossed people see me as nice and friendly when they visit my blog or chat to me on social media, I am very ambitious too so it’s hard to call! Great post and try not to forget that everyone was a newbie once and felt a little lost but eventually found their feet. Lovely post, thanks for linking up to #thelist x

  13. I’m not sure of my tribe either. We homeschool but I don’t blog about curriculum and worksheets. I blog about our days and the fun activities we did…but not really “how to’s”. We also live on a farm so there is that aspect. It’s hard finding you clique. #sharewithme

  14. Hi Natalie, I know exactly which tribes my blog doesn’t fit into, but have no idea which tribes it does. I always get stumped at the question ‘describe your blog’, I write without really thinking about a niche or tribe, which does make for a very random sort of blog. So I’m going to add another tribe to your list, The Random Blogs.

    You’ve got me thinking.

    xx

  15. I guess I would be in the Newbie category, I would like to think that I was also in the friendly one too. I am sure I will fit in to one permanently soon x

  16. Some of the blogs I read would definitely fit into your tribes! Personally, I don’t take it seriously enough to fit into some categories and I’m definitely not cool enough for others! I’d probably be a friendly newbie like some previous posters- from the look of it, these sidelines are seeming quite busy! #fortheloveofBLOG

  17. I love this. I like to think I am the friendly but I am probably the newbie waiting to see who is nice enough to chat to on the playground. lol Thanks for linking up to Share With Me I hope you will continue to share your amazing blog posts with Charlotte over at Mummy Fever starting next week. #sharewithme

  18. Oh I would love to know which tribe I fit into! Definitely not the cool one though – that unfortunately has never been my style! Such an observant post though, I think blogs do definitely fit into these categories and that’s why blogging is so fab – there’s something for everyone! Whichever category you fit into, I think your blog is great! Thanks for sharing with us on #fortheloveofBLOG x

  19. You clearly have read a good few blogs! Your categories are very accurate 🙂 It took me a while to work out what I want to blog about. Just enjoy it! It will come to you xx

  20. Hey lovely! So nice to come over to your blog. I’ve been getting back into linkies recently and I’m really enjoying getting to know everyone again. The blogging world changes so quickly with newbies joining every week so it’s nice to make an effort to ‘meet’ people. I love your descriptions! They are spot on! hehe Tor x #DreamTeam

  21. Popping back, but this time with the #dreamteam. I love your list, I still think I probably fit into the friendly category (hopefully ?). I agree that the blogging world changes so quickly. One second your a newbie, then before you know it your on a roll. Xx

  22. I think I probably fit into ‘The Friendly’ at least that’s my aim. I always gravitate towards these blogs too – kind of like a cosy knit and a cup of tea all rolled into one. I think yours fits nicely in this ‘Tribe’ don’t you? You’re definitely no longer a ‘newbie’ in my eyes 🙂 x
