80’S Fashion and Glamour

80’S Fashion and Glamour

As a child of the 80’s it has to be one of my favourite decades with regards to fashion. Whilst the 70’s had a real swinging hippie vibe, think flares, maxi dresses, Tie dye, peasant blouses, and ponchos. The 80’s were all about the bold glamour. There was plenty of punk glamour, rock and roll, neon and big hair. For me 80’s fashion reminds me of Diana years. Puffed padded shoulders, black velvet party dresses, power suits, sequins and beautiful vintage jewellery. Dangly earrings, beautiful brooches, diamonte necklaces.

80’s fashion was such a huge part of my childhood.

I have such fond memories growing up in the 80’s. I remember being a little girl watching my Mum getting ready for a night out. Nivea face cream, Elizabeth Arden make up. Putting rollers in her fringe so it curled up. The smell of Estee Lauder ‘Youth Dew’ takes me right back to being a little. I couldn’t wait to grow up and be just like my Mum. My middle daughter now watches me get ready. Putting my lipstick on and having a spray of my perfume. These wonderful moments that we will always remember and cherish.

The Diana years.

The moment the whole world watched Princess Diana marry Prince Charles in 1981 is a memorable 80’s fashion moment. All eyes on this beautiful woman about to become a Princess in the most amazing dress. Made from Ivory silk taffeta and antique lace gown, with a 25-foot train and a 153 yards tulle veil. The glamorous diamond earrings. Not for getting the engagement and wedding rings.

For me the 80’s were iconic. Such strong looks and with sparkly jewellery, leg warmers, bangles, bum bags (who could forget those). The 80’s was the decade that accessories came into their own.

What are your favourite 80’s fashion styles?
