My Inspirational Summer Books

My Inspirational Summer Books

Pre children I would pack about 6 books to take on holiday and read everyone of them. I was such a bookworm and I think reading is the one thing I miss most since starting a family. However, to my surprise, I managed to read 2 books this holiday (with 3 little ones this is quite an achievement). Instead of the usual romance or thrillers I thought I would try something a little different – an Inspirational book

As much as I love my blog, the last few months I have definitely lost my way with it a little. Mostly due to time restrictions but also due to lack of inspiration. I wanted to read an inspirational book that would motivate me. I wanted to come home from my holiday and start to enjoy my blog and social media again. Something that would make me feel excited about my little online space.

#GirlBoss

After reading through some really positive reviews, I decided to try #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso and I was excited to see if it lived up to the hype. It did not disappoint! I could not put it down. Sophie is the founder of Nasty Gal, one of the fastest growing retailers. She writes about how she went from job to job until she started selling vintage clothes on Ebay, which we all know turned into a massive success. It is honest, funny and full of advice. A book I plan to read over and over again. If you are looking for similar motivation or inspiration, this is definitely the book for you.

Capture your Style

After reading #Girlboss I wanted more, I wanted another book that I could learn from. I wanted to take this rare opportunity of time and use it wisely. So I decided to read Capture your Style: Transform Your Instagram Images, Showcase your Life, and Build the Ultimate Platform by Alice Song.

I love Instagram and was interested in learning about how to improve my feed. A few chapters into the book I was worried I had made a mistake. Alice Song is a fashion blogger/instagrammer and, whilst I love fashion, it is not really an area that I document. However, as I continued reading I actually found it really informative and I leaned a lot. Alice talked about the importance of geotags (a technique that I don’t take advantage of for my pictures) and she also detailed some of the best apps and filters to use. Reading “Capture your Style” has definitely made me feel more creative and has also made me try and experiment more with my pictures. The only thing I would recommend is that a copy of the book in print would be much better than my copy on the Kindle since it was really hard to see her beautiful pictures.

Two great books I absolutely loved! Have you read an inspirational book? I’m excited about what I can read next!

  1. I miss reading too; pre kids I was the novel-a-week kinda girl! Like you, though, recently I have discovered that I really like reading useful and inspiring books that I can learn from. Both the books you read sound amazing! 16-yer-old me with her nose in a classic would give me evils if she could see me typing this haha! I must be getting old! #fortheloveofBLOG

  3. Hi Natalie, it is nice when we find a book that inspires us.I’ll have to check these books out. Having the time to read does come second when we become parents, although I did make a point of reading a page or two when I went to bed at night! It did make a book last!… If I buy a Kindle book with images I use the Kindle cloud reader on my laptop. It brings up the images nicely.

Thank you for linking up with the #MMBC.

  4. I really miss my reading time – it’s so hard to find the time and even when I do I am interrupted! It’s always good to hear about books to check out when I do have the time xxx #SharingTheBlogLove

  5. I used to be the same Nat and loved to read lots of books on holiday before kids, now it takes me ages to get through a book. I love the sound of both of these, I love a good inspirational book. And I really love to see how people do well on IG, I need to fall back in love with it. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

  6. I was book worm too, especially on holidays, and like you it doesn’t happen as much as I would like these days. I haven’t seen the Girlboss book but have been watching it on Netflix. #sharingthebloglove

  7. oh I haven’t read a book in ages, sometimes it does feel like it is too much all about the blog and so little time to read books, or even work on my own. These sound great. I love Instagram so much!
