The end of an era.

The end of an era.

Over 15 years ago my lovely man finished university bright eyed and optimistic for the future. He walked pretty much into a job and has stayed there ever since – well, until now.

It has been a tough year pondering if it was time for a change – the company he worked for was all he ever knew. He has worked long hours often into the early hours of the morning helping, fixing and building. I may be slightly biased but he is pretty amazing at what he does and he has gained the respect of so many of his colleagues. However, the last few years, whilst he has still worked as hard as ever, I have definitely seen him lose his passion for his job.

Change is so scary especially when you have a family to support and a mortgage to pay. My husband financially supports us all and I know that sometimes this worries him. However, sometimes you have to make that leap no matter how scary it is. Life is too short to stumble along doing a job that no longer makes you happy. I want him to come home from work full of excitement and passion for his work.

So this week he started a new adventure. A new role in a new company in a new city. It has been a long week for us all and it will definitely take time for us all to adjust to our new routine and for him to adjust in his new role but I honestly couldn’t be prouder of my man, he really is amazing.

So a whole new chapter for us….how exciting!

  1. Wow that is a big change! I’ve only every worked for two firms, the one I trained with and the one I’ve been with for the last 12 years and I can imagine how strange it must feel for all of you for him to have moved. Fingers crossed that it continues to live up to expectations and be worth the upheaval 🙂

  2. You’re right – change is so hard. My husband has worked in the same company for over 20 years now and recently moved into management – no longer in overalls and doing the physical work but in a shirt and tie, inspecting people’s work and managing them. It was a real shock to the system and took him a while to settle into it but he loves it now x

  3. That’s a great quote! Change is always hard, no matter what it is. I think we are creatures of habit. Well done him for taking that step. I know my husband feels the weight on his shoulders being the only one working. I am sure he will love it there too x #TheOrdinaryMoments

  4. Oh the very best of luck to him in his new job. I always move on when I’m getting fed up of a job, never end up staying for very long because once I start to get cynical it’s time to move on. Usually about two years for me. I hope you all settle into your new routine quickly.

  5. Oh that is a big change, good for him being so brave! Carl has had the same job since uni too and I sometimes wonder if he’ll ever move and to be honest I can’t see it. He’s a creature of habbit and he’s settle there and they are good to him. I would totally encourage him to take the leap if it was making him unhappy though. You two sound like a great team and I’m sure you will have all adapted really soon xx

  6. We’re on the cusp of something similar here and it’s scary but it could lead to so much more. If you don’t try you’ll never know – good on him for taking the leap. I hope he settles in well! x

  7. I can relate and understand where you and your family are coming from. I recently left my long term job too. I have been wanting to leave for a long time. I haven’t been happy in years. I’m not that brave though. I needed the push of motherhood to help me take the plunge. So here I am, at the crossroads of my life. Frightened, excited, happy, sad, and cautiously optimistic. Things will work out for both of our families. They have to work out so we will make it happen. #KCACOLS

  8. Congratulations on the new adventure ahead! I love that Steve jobs quote, it’s so true. If you don’t have passion for what you are doing, it will always be just a job. Thank you for sharing with the #dreamteam x

  9. Wow! How exciting (and scary) for you guys. My hubby made a jump this year too and started down a whole new career path. It has meant a lot of sacrifices, but I want him to love what he does too! That makes such a difference in the long run! Work to live, not to drive yourself to the death!

  10. Taking that leap can be so terrifying! I can only imagine how much more terrifying as the main earner. I hope he finds that love and passion again, and you all adjust to the new routine quickly. #KCACOLS

  11. I always say to you her family members just starting their working life to find a job you love, not one that just gives you money. After all it’s shed you spend the majority of your time!

Best of luck to your hubby and the rest of you. Hope it all works out for the best.

    #KCACOLS
