12 Years

The 12th December 2003 was the day me and Hubbie met, I use the word met loosely as we actually worked together so we had obviously already met but this was the date we got chatting and decided that we kinda actually liked each other. It was our office Christmas party, such a cliche I know.

Pre Children, we used to celebrate the 12th of every month (any excuse) but now obviously with our girls being so young we don’t get the opportunity to get out as much. We were in two minds yesterday if we should go out or not, the weather was horrible, we couldn’t really afford it, so many excuses, but we decided to make an effort and spend the evening together, just us – I am so pleased we did.

Me and my Hubbie were so different, if we both wrote a profile for online dating I am pretty sure we would not be matched together. He liked country life I liked city life, he liked cosy quiet pubs and I liked noisy clubs, he loves the great outdoors and I used to cry if I got my hair wet. We were like chalk and cheese…..but somehow it works and 12 years on, 2 kids later, here we are.

Our lifestyles have merged so much and we have found a happy compromise. We compliment each other, he calms me down and makes me a kinder more patient person whereas I have made him more positive and more sociable and taught him not to sweat the small the stuff.

We are not perfect, like most couples we can argue, fall out, disagree but hand on heart, I can honestly say he is my best friend, I count on him, trust him and feel confident that he has got my back. It’s nice to know that on this rollercoaster called life, he is holding my hand.

12 Years.

  1. This is such a beautiful post. I love that you have that little tradition of celebrating the 12th, what a special thing, although small to the outside world, will be what shapes your relationship and what you will remember!

It sounds like a lovely bond you share and a great future ahead. We just got back from a weekend away for our belated anniversary, and its so nice, like you say to have time together and hold hands through the journey of life!

Congrats on another year xx #ordinarymoments

  2. This is such a lovely post. It definitely made me go “awwww”. I am so glad that you got to spend time together on your anniversary. Here is to the next 12 years. Hugs Mrs H xxxx

  3. I love this! My husband and I worked together before we got together 🙂 My husband and I have totally different personalities, he is so laid back, confident, chatty and great in social situations and I am the complete opposite. But we both love doing the same things and I think we compliment each other perfectly. He is definitely the right one for me. 12 years is amazing and I hope the next 12 are equally brilliant Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove x
