‘I want to climb a mountain’

‘I want to climb a mountain’

It has been the first week of the school holidays here and it’s been bliss!

On Wednesday, Harri was in nursery and I was working so my husband took the day off to look after Meme. He asked her what she would like to do and she replied ‘I want to climb a mountain’.  With my husband loving the great outdoors and requiring little encouragement, that is what they did, much to my horror.

They packed a bag, layered up (it was forecast heavy rain!) and off they went. They drove 30 minutes to Moel Famau and walked 50 minutes to the top before walking back down. They also spent time at the park (which is at the bottom) and followed the animal trail that they have there. They returned home tired, full of stories and with a little bit of wind burn.

Such a crazy pair but…..I love it. I love that is what Meme chose to do and I love that my husband said ‘ok lets do it’. I also love that my husband takes us all on adventures, sometimes they seem a little crazy and, although I may sometimes prefer to stay in nice and warm, we always come back feeling exhilarated and happy. I can’t believe I am writing this but there is something about being outside, exploring and playing, climbing mountains or collecting shells on a winter beach.

My husband can’t stay still and it is definitely catching. We now all struggle to stay indoors for too long but this is the way I want our life to be. I want my girls to have lots of fun memories and stories to tell, to visit amazing places and have so many different experiences, to stay fit and healthy and have a get up and go attitude.

They came back from the day with some great pictures. My Meme is pretty amazing!

  1. What a brilliant daddy!
I love that she wanted to climb a mountain rather than sit in and watch T.V
Sounds like a wonderful place to go. Pretty jealous there are no mountains around here!

  2. Wow what an amazing night adventure and job, beautiful views too! Mine loves climbing big ‘mountains’ (hills) and it’s such an adventure for them isn’t it x

  3. Oh bless her and him, that is amazing and such a lovely thing for them to do together. I bet Meme was so proud when she was telling you all about their adventures that night. x

  4. Wonderful outdoor fun together, I share the can’t sit still bug, it’s a good thing in life and makes you appreciate the freedom of the outdoors. Great photos, really natural.

  5. Wow what an adventure, Meme must have such strong legs to walk all that way! My husband does all the crazy adventures too, it’s so lovely isn’t it (although I agree a little scary sometimes haha). xx

  6. Beautiful pictures and such a precious moment. Things like this she will remember her whole life, the fun adventures with Dad! Its so lovely that she has that adventurous spirit in her x

  7. Going outdoors is so amazing especially when you do it with your family and kids! Its a nice way to start them at being healthy me thinks.

We try to go out as much as we can too. We cant drive as I dont have car but we walk at the beach.

Lovely photos on this walk. The weather is not too bright and the light is amazing.

  8. That’s brilliant, very well done to her! My 14yo son is obsessed with mountains! He’s climbed Snowdon about 6 times (I’ve done it once and it terrified me) and my husband is taking him to Ben Nevis in the May half-term. Eeek!
Thanks very much for linking up with Loud ‘n’ Proud.

  9. Oh how fantastic is that. I would love it if my children said they wanted to climb a mountain – and I too would have their bags packed quicker than they could get their shoes on!
